5th day of Lunar New Year
Legend has it that this is the birthday of the Wealth Deity of the Five Directions and also a good day for “breaking” a run of bad luck. Those in business use this day to make offerings and prayers for prosperity and good luck throughout the year.
Custom also has it that sweeping the floors during the Lunar New Year is inadvisable, as you will sweep away your wealth, but on this day you are allowed to sweep the floors as it means that you are ridding your home of bad luck and negativity. Ideally, no visiting should be scheduled for this day, as it is a belief that it will be bad luck for both guests and hosts. However, socializing outside your homes is acceptable.Recommended Posts
