5th day of Lunar New Year
Legend has it that this is the birthday of the Wealth Deity of the Five Directions and also a good day for “breaking” a run of bad luck. Those in business use this day to make offerings and prayers for prosperity and good luck throughout the year.
Custom also suggests that sweeping the floors during the Lunar New Year is inadvisable, as you will be sweeping away wealth energy. However, on this day, sweeping the floors means you are ridding your home of bad luck and negativity. Ideally, no visiting should be scheduled for this day, as it is believed that it is bad luck for both guests and hosts. However, socializing outside your home is acceptable.
